Local WInter Fun for Families

Lake Arrowhead - Less than two hours from Los Angeles is the enchanted Alpine Village of Lake Arrowhead.  It’s a great winter escape with or without snow. The renovated Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa offers winter deals for families who chose to stay overnight.

Next door, is the Lake Arrowhead Village with discount outlet shopping, restaurants, and incredible lake and forest views. After a day of fun in the snow, Papagayos Mexican Restaurant is home to one of the best burritos on the mountain.

Ice Skating - The Ice Castle International Training Center offers open freestyle recreational skating sessions. The coaches are world renown and experts in training all level of skaters. Playing in the Snow - Snow Drift Tube Play is located in Running Springs and offers snow fun for $12 per hour. Families have to carry their tubes up a hill, which can tire little ones. There is no snowball throwing or snowman building at this park in the San Bernardino National forest.

Snow Play was once known as Rebel Ridge. This Big Bear snow park is ideal for all ages. Natural and man-made snow offers a great base for tubing and building snowmen. Just step on the magic carpet with an inner tube and get whisked uphill to the top. Sit on the tube for thrilling downhill twists and turns. Tickets are $25 for unlimited rides.

Local Ski Areas - The closest ski area is Snow Valley in Running Springs with 13 different level lifts. It was voted “Most Family Friendly” by OnTheSnow.com, because of its helpful staff and instructors teaching children and skiers of all levels.

Ski Big Bear - Bear Mountain has 12 lifts for skiers at all levels.  There are 15% beginner runs, 55% intermediate and 30% advanced. The resort’s annual snowfall is around 100 inches. Sister resort, Snow Summit offers skiers 14 lifts with a 10% terrain for first time beginners, 25% for low intermediates, 40% for solid intermediates, and 25% for advanced.

Cross Country Skiing - For families who want to try Cross Country Skiing or Snow Shoeing, the Rim Nordic Ski Area sets up beginners and seasoned skiers with 12 miles of groomed trails. Ask about their Learn-to-ski beginner package.
